Buddha

1) The topic of  “What the Buddhist Believe” (Series 2 in 9 consecutive Fridays) this Friday, 25 October will be “My Monkey Mind and Getting it Back” by Bro Tan Siang Chye. All are welcome.

On next Friday, 1 November, the topic is “Misconceptions about Buddhism & Other Questions” by Bro Tan Siang Chye. 

2) This year’s Kathina Ceremony will be held on this Sunday, 27th October 2019. Kathina is a traditional Buddhist Ceremony started by the Buddha Himself for lay devotees to offer robes and other requisites to the Sangha at the end of Vassa (rainy season).

The Ceremony will begin on Kathina Eve (26th October 2019) with Taking The Three Refuges & Five Precepts before the Sangha at 8.00pm followed by, Procession Round the Vihara, Paritta Chanting, Dhamma Talk, Blessings by the Sangha and Sharing of Merits.

On Kathina Day, the Ceremony will commence at 8.15am with the Taking of the Three Refuges and Observance of the Five Precepts administered by the Sangha, Offering of Robes and other Requisites, Sharing of Merits and Lunch Dana. A blood donation campaign will also be held on this auspicious day. Please come and join us to perform these meritorious deeds together.

3) SJBA is organising a MahasanghikaDana (lunch) for 100 Monks in SJBA on 28 October 2019. The Programme will start at 9am with the arrival of the 100 Monks, followed by Chanting of the Dhammacakkapavattana Sutta, Blessings by the Sangha, Sharing of Merits at our Shrine Hall and MahasanghikaDana at our new Dana Hall. Lunch will also be provided for devotees. Due to space and time constraints, devotees are encouraged to (instead of bringing individual offering of food items, etc) contribute to the Sangha Fund for the food (which is catered and prepacked and devotees have the opportunity to offer one packed box each to one Monk) and potential requisites (angpows). All are welcome to this auspicious and meritorious Dana.

Sumana  at SJBA Shrine Hall  from 7.30pm to 8.15pm during this 3-months Rains Retreat (Vassana Period) will end on 13 October. Devotees are invited to join in, especially the End of Vassa Chanting on Sunday, 13 October 2019.

1) SJBA is celebrating our country’s 62nd Merdeka Day on 31st August 2019 (Saturday). The Celebration will start with a Merdeka Breakfast at 8.00am, followed by Flag Raising Ceremony, Blessings by the Venerable Monks, cutting of Merdeka cake and fellowship. Members and devotees are invited to join us for the Celebration. To encourage our members’ children to strive for excellence in their academic performance, SJBA will present Academic Excellence Awards to students who excelled in their examinations in 2018. The Awards will be given out on Merdeka Day, 31st August 2019. For more information, please call Sis. Lily at tel. 03-56315299;

On the same day, SJBA is also organizing a Blessings Service for students sitting for UPSR, PT3, SPM, STPM, etc. examinations this year, conducted by the Members of the Sangha. The program is as follows:

The 3 Turnings of the 4 Noble Truths proclaimed by the Buddha

SJBA invite you and family and friends to a spiritual and mentally enriching morning at this Sunday (Aug18) Buddha Puja commencing at 9.15am with offering of lights, flowers and incense to the Buddha, chanting, Dhamma Talk on “The 3 Turnings of the 4 Noble Truths proclaimed by the Buddha” by Bro Teoh Kian Koon.

Bro. Teoh graduated from University of Malaya in Civil Engineering in 1979. He had been a spiritual practitioner cum ‘Meditator’ since 1971. Since his retirement in 2001 from his engineering career, he has been sharing his understanding and experiences with all who are keen in the search for true happiness, peace and liberation from birth and death and all mental suffering to become a more virtuous, noble and wiser human being.
He gives talks and hold meditation and Dhamma classes at various meditation centres.
