1) The “What Buddhists Believe” 9-Friday course, 8.30pm to 10.00pm at SJBA Shrine Hall is still in progress. The course is based on the book “What Buddhist Believe” by the late Chief Reverend Dr. K Sri Dhammananda.

The topic this coming Friday, 12 Jul  is  “Saint or Sinner: What Makes One” by Uncle Vijaya.

The topic on the following Friday, 19 July is “I Have Been Here Before” by Bro. Ananda Fong 

2) Our Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi will be leaving for Canada for his 3-month Rains Retreat (Vassa) on the morning of 14 July 2019. Devotees are invited to partake in a lunch dana for our Abbot on 13 July to wish him a safe journey and a fruitful Retreat. All are welcome.

3) In conjunction with the country’s 62nd Merdeka Day on 31st August 2019 (Saturday), SJBA will present Academic Excellence Awards to students who have excelled in their examinations in 2018.  Application is now open to students who have excelled in the following examinations:

                                                                SJK :  6 As & above

                 (ii)  PT3                                 – 7 As & above (excluding lisan & oral)

                 (iii) SPM                                –  8 As & above

Venerable Dr. Dhammapala graduated in Pali and Buddhist Studies from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka and received his Doctorate from the University of Hong Kong. He has been lecturing in the University of Hong Kong and presented a number of papers. He is the Spiritual Director of Buddhistdoor and Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong University of Buddhist Studies Alumini Association. He is now the Abbot of Brahmavihara Monastery & Retreat Centre, Melaka.

1) SJBA is hosting an Exhibition from 1 June to 21 June 2019 at our new Dana Hall, on The 3 Great Masters (of Malaysia) focusing on the legacy and inspiration of Ven. Sumangalo, Ven. Chuk Mor and Ven. Dr. K Sri Dhammananda, their Dhamma propagation effort, words of wisdom, life events and achievements, etc. All are welcome  

2) SJBA is organising a Dhamma Talk “Lay Persons Certainly Can Become Ariya” by Ven. Dhammavuddho Maha Thera, the Founder Abbot of Vihara Buddha Gotama and Monastic Adviser of the Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia. The Talk will be held at SJBA Shrine Hall on 15 June 2019, 8.30pm to 10.00pm.

1) There will be Dhamma Talk titled “The Path an Attainment of Ariya-hood” by Ven. Dr. Dhammapala on 1 June 2019, 8pm to 10pm. The Talk will highlight the ‘gradual process of the different stages of spiritual path and their abandonment of categories of defilements, and finally attainment of arahathood. Ven.. Dr. Dhammapala has a PhD in Buddhist Study under the supervision of Ven. Dhammajoti n the University Hong Kong. He traveled frequently to conduct meditation retreats, Dhamma talks in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China. Currently, he is the Abbot of the Brahmavihara Monastery & Retreat Centre, Melaka, the Bodhvana Monastery in Sg. Pelek and the Centre of Mindfulness, Hong Kong.

2) SJBA will be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 2 June 2019 at 9.30am. The Agenda include receiving and adopting the Executive Committee’s Annual Report, Audited Statement of Accounts, and deliberation of other matters as deemed fit by the Assembly. All members are cordially invited to join us.

The Talk will highlight the ‘gradual process of the different stages of spiritual path and their abandonment of categories of defilements, and finally attainment of arahathood. Ven. Dr. Dhammapala has a PhD in Buddhist Study under the supervision of Ven. Dhammajoti n the University Hong Kong. He traveled frequently to conduct meditation retreats, Dhamma talks in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China. Currently, he is the Abbot of the Brahmavihara Monastery & Retreat Centre, Melaka, the Bodhvana Monastery in Sg. Pelek and the Centre of Mindfulness, Hong Kong.

Wesak Celebration in SJBA will start on Wesak Eve, 18 May with lighting of Blessings Oil Lamps at 7.30pm followed by Wesak Eve Buddha Puja, Dhamma Talk by SJBA’s Abbot, Ven. Nyanaramsi, Procession Round the Vihara and Bodhi Tree, Chanting and Meditation. On Wesak Day, Puja Service will commence at 8.00am followed by the official launching of the Wesak Day Celebration at 9.45am. Blessings Service will be carried by the Maha Sangha until 4pm. 
From 11.00am to 2.30pm, vegetarian food will be provided. There will be a Blood Donation Organ Pledge Campaign. We need around 200 volunteer helpers to help organize all these activities. Please register yourselves by writing your name at our Notice Board or call Sis. The Dhamma Talk is on “What one Get by Giving” based on the Kindada Sutta by Bhante  Dr. Devananda. Bhante Dr. Devananda is currently Resident Bhikku at Florida Buddhist Vihara. Earlier, he taught the Dhamma in Singapore, Taipei, Malaysia and Australia for nearly seven years. Major part of this period was spent in Malaysia as a resident monk at the Buddhist Maha Vihara. Bhante Dr. Devananda is a scholar proficient in Pali, Sanskrit, classical Sinhala, Hindi and in English and has published several books and Suttas. He has performed research on the social philosophy of the Buddha as depicted in the Pali Canon. He has graduate degrees in Education, Buddhist Social Studies as well as Buddhist Studies (in general). He holds Ph.D degree in Buddhist Social Studies. He is now in Malaysia again with invitation of Most Ven B Saranankara Nayaka Maha Thera.

1) In conjunction with Qing Ming, SJBA is organising a Pattidana on this Sunday, 14 April, 8am to 11am in SJBA Shrine Hall to dedicate merits to the departed ones. Pattidana is for the benefit of those departed relatives and friends who may have been reborn in certain unfortunate state of existence. When they are aware that their relatives or friends have performed some meritorious deeds dedicated to them, they can be relieved of their suffering. When they rejoice repeatedly, their unhappy birth will be transformed to a happy one.
